SIMPLICITY CRIBS
DETAILS: Simplicity and its successor company, SFCA Inc., are no longer in business, which leaves the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission with limited information about the full-size cribs recalled. Both fixed-side and drop-side cribs made with tubular metal mattress support frames are involved, including all models made under the Simplicity or Simplicity for Children brands with that type of frame, along with models made under the Aspen, Chelsea Deluxe and Graco brands. They were made in China for Simplicity of Reading, Pa., and sold at Walmart stores, Target, Babies R Us and other stores nationwide for between $150 and $300.
WHY: The cribs' tubular metal mattress support frame can bend or come apart, and cause part of the mattress to collapse. That creates a space into which an infant or toddler can become wedged, trapped or fall out of the crib.
INCIDENTS: CPSC has received a report of a 1-year-old child from North Attleboro, Mass., who suffocated when he became trapped between the crib mattress and the crib frame in April 2008. The agency is aware of 13 other incidents.

GRACO CRIBS
DETAILS: Full size Graco brand drop-side cribs made by LaJobi Inc. of Cranbury, N.J. The wooden cribs were sold in cherry, espresso, natural and white finishes under several model names. They were made in China and Vietnam and sold at children's product stores and other retailers nationwide from February 2007 to March 2010, for between $140 and $200.
WHY: The drop-side hardware can break or fail, allowing the side to detach from the crib. That creates a gap between the drop side and the crib mattress where infants can become wedged or trapped and suffocate. Children can also fall from the cribs when the drop side detaches or fails to lock.
INCIDENTS: A total of 99 reports, including two in which children were trapped and freed by caregivers. There were six reports of children falling because the drop side failed, including one that resulted in a concussion.
HOW MANY: About 217,000
In over 12 years of business, KIDS Has Never Had Even One Recall of Any Crib Brand That We Offer.
Our Canadian Manufacturers, like AP Industries and College Woodwork conform to not only the Mandatory Safety Standards as set out by the ASTM; but they meet Voluntary Safety standards as well. These companies ensure that all their cribs are safety tested in Canada or the US. For example, Finishes are sent out to independent testing agencies to ensure that lead content is within the strict limits mandated.
Moreover, manufacturers like College Woodwork in conjunction with their Offspring product ensure that all four sides of the cribs are pulled 9000 times to ensure longterm stability. Entanglement testing ensures that baby will be safe and that clothes will not get caught on any edges. Further, forty-five pounds of weight is hammered into each corner and at the centres at least 150 times to ensure that the crib is safe.
Please feel free to contact us to discuss your safety concerns and crib needs.
